    1. What happened

    Starting in Unity 5.6 and I beleive due to the changes to how MSAA is implement, antialaising has been broken/disabled for UI elements when the canvas is set to 'ScreenSpace Overlay'.

    In the example scene, the Quality is set to 8x MSAA, the camera has allowMSAA enabled, yet in game view( and builds ) the 1 pixel line ( generated via a rotated UI image component) is no longer antialaised, however in the scene view it is.

    If you open the orignal project from 5.4.2f2 found in the supplied zipped iin any version < 5.6 you will see that UI images used to be anti-aliased correctly.

    Its possible to set the canvas to 'ScreenSpace - Camera' and ths will fix the AA issue, unfrotuantely it breaks alot of other code - for example the dyanmic line code in the example no longer works.

    Ultimately ScreenSpace - Overlay should and needs to support the projects MSAA settings, but no longer does!



    2. How we can reproduce it using the example you attached

    1. Open 'UI AntiAliasing Fail' scene.

    2. Observe that in Game View the 'SampleLine' image component is aliased.

    3. Examine 'SampleLine' in Scene view notice it is perfectly antialiased and smooth.

    4. The inserted screenshot image to the right shows Game view top and scene view bottom. Illustrating that UI image used to create a line ( set width to 1 and rotated) is not antialiased in the game view, but is in Scene view.

    5. You can also play the scene and the dynamic line will link the two circle images and again it is not AA in game view, but is in the scene view.

    6. I've attached a zipped version of the project for Unity 5.4.2 where UI images in the game view are correctly anti-alaised. This is also true for Unity 5.5, but its Unity 5.6 where it breaks.
