Thank you for submitting this bug! I'm QA for Collab. The team and I looked over this bug and compared ourselves to how other version control systems handle this exact scenario to see where we can improve. We've decided to convert this from a bug to a feature request, since this isn't a regression in behavior nor is it something that can be addressed with a quick fix. We plan to add better error messaging and handling around this scenario with our new UI within the next year.
